In protocol terms, this is a state transition without a verified source transaction. No merkle root. No attestation. No signature. Just a number, floating in the information mempool, waiting for confirmation that will never arrive.

Anthropic reported $1 billion in revenue at mid-2024. By the end of 2023, the figure was closer to $100 million. A $65 billion run-rate implies 65x growth in under 18 months. To an auditor, that ratio is not growth, it's a different function entirely. It's the difference between organic protocol expansion and a reentrancy event. The code does not lie, it only reveals — and in this case, the code is the absence of any actual code. There are no financial statements. No securities filings. For the reader: The number creates a cognitive anchor. Once you've heard "Anthropic's $65 billion," it's hard to unhear. Even if you intellectually reject it, the number remains in your memory, affecting your assessment of Anthropic's value. This is the anchoring bias, used deliberately.

Defining value beyond the visual token — in this case, the token is the figure itself. The number is the asset, and it's not backed by anything. It's pure digital entropy.

The Information Asymmetry

There is a deeper structural problem here. The AI industry is arguably even more opaque than the crypto markets that crypto journalists are used to covering. There are no on-chain metrics for AI companies. No TVL. No daily active users on a transparent ledger.
